This was a private cemetery dating back to the 1847 burial of William B. Swan. The cemetery became used by the townspeople of Everett and expanded to a full square acre in size. By 1898, it was abandoned. Four bodies, including that of Alanson Swan, were exhumed and moved to Cedar Grove Cemetery in nearby Peninsula. The remaining gravestones were stolen, thrown into Furnace Run, and used as flagstones for a garden walkway. Over three dozen graves still remain. A house, once owned by a R. H. Miller, still sits atop part of the graves. Legend persists that the spirits of the remaining dead may have become upset and roam the area surrounding the cemetery and bridge adjacent to it. |
